Based on its expertise and technological leadership, the SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT industrial plan puts Research & Development at the heart of its strategic concerns.
This is a key factor which differentiates it from its competitors, particularly in requests for proposals.
Thus in 2008, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT allocated 65 million euros to R&D in its two business lines: water and waste management.
In research centers and in the field, the SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT teams are innovating to:
- combat climate change and preserve natural resources,
- offer their customers quality services,
- protect the environment and the quality of life of their customers.
A Memorandum of Understanding with the Singapore Public Authorities Board
On the occasion of Singapore International Water Week 2008, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Singapore Public Authorities Board (PUB), the Singapore government’s water-management agency.
This agreement established the foundations of a partnership to allow each party to benefit from their respective expertise in developing scientific and technological cooperation.
Several research topics have been identified, such as water processing, sanitation and re-use; information technology involving hydro technologies; waste minimization and recycling.
Through this partnership, the PUB has been integrated into the international laboratory network of Suez Environnement and participated in Inter-Laboratory Testing.
Several R&D projects were initiated, as well as the sharing of experiences around the following topics:
- Energy Efficiency: improved energy efficiency in wastewater treatment plants,
- Wastewater Reuse: thesis at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Fouling Propensity of Secondary and Tertiary Effluents – Focus: Application to Industrial Wastewater Reuse using Low Pressure Membranes Processes”,
- Microbial Fuel-Cell,
- River Basin Management,
- Greasy Waste.
With this partnership, SUEZ ENVIRONNEMENT strengthened its commitment to research in Asia, a region where the company contributes to improving its knowledge of the major environmental challenges.
